Be Informed, Be Involved: Parent Involvement Opportunities
We have many opportunities for parents to be involved at Bright Water. An involved parent is an empowered parent, and we want to make it easy to find something that will work with your schedule. We have opportunities ranging from 10 minutes once a month to 90 minutes every day! Connect with the PTO at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) As a parent of a Bright Water student, you are a member of the PTO. The PTO is committed to provide effective support to each other, our students, our teachers, our administrative staff and the entire school. We are a vibrant social organization that strives to nurture the community of the school.
We meet on the second Thursday of every month at the school at 5:30pm. We will begin the meeting with the key business for the month and then move into the scheduled Parent Education topic. We provide child care and parents are invited to bring a dish to share for a community potluck.

We have a variety of specific events for which we are looking for volunteers.
Room Parent (Ongoing) This is an amazing way to get to know your child’s classroom and teachers and an opportunity to create community with your class’s families. You will work with the teachers to organize classroom volunteer needs, to welcome new families and to organize 1-2 events throughout the year to get know each other. This adds up to a 1-3 hour commitment per month. We will provide assistance and training!
Library Maintenance (Ongoing) What better way to help our children than through having a welcoming, well-organized, cozy school library? We are looking for people to learn to catalog and re-shelve books and keep the library neat and clean. This is a volunteer opportunity that can be done on your own time frame with any amount of time you have.
Gardening (Ongoing) Our new school playground includes many beautiful plantings. We want to keep them healthy and strong (just like our children!). Help us to do that by volunteering time to weed, water and do general maintenance on the garden areas. This is a volunteer opportunity that can be done on your own time frame.
Fall Family Work Morning (Saturday, August 24) It’s time to get the school grounds in order and prep our new playground for students. We are planting, assembling benches, painting and cleaning. We are looking for a 1-3 hour commitment between 9am and 12noon.
Fall Ice Cream Social (Thursday, Sept 12) Help us build community and welcome our families back to school with socializing and sweet treats. We are looking for volunteers to set up, clean up and serve ice cream. It’s a one-hour commitment between 3:30pm and 7:00pm.
Books for Books & Muffin Morning (January TBD) We are adding a small winter fundraiser to raise money for books for our classrooms and library. We are looking to sell gently used books and muffins to our North Side community. We need volunteers to assist in marketing prior to the event and assist in set up, clean up and selling on the days of the event.
Bright Water’s Birthday Bash (Friday, Feb 21) Let’s celebrate Bright Water’s 10th birthday in style! It’s a night of fun, games and cake with family and community members. We need volunteers to set up, clean up, serve food and cake, face paint, make balloon animals and help with any other party ideas anyone wants to contribute. It’s a one-hour commitment between 3:30pm and 8:00pm.
Spring Family Work Morning (Saturday, April 26) It’s time to get the gardens in! We are moving dirt, planting, painting and doing some spring cleaning. We are looking for a 1-3 hour commitment between 9 am and 12 noon.
Third Annual Spring Gala Fundraiser (Saturday, May 3) Let’s raise money for our fabulous school through a night of great music, dancing, food, fabulous classroom baskets and a GIANT silent auction. We are looking for people to serve on the gala committee – it’s a one-hour per month commitment from Oct to May.
Spring Ice Cream Social (Thursday, May 29) Help us build community and send us off into summer with socializing and sweet treats. We are looking for volunteers to set up, clean up and serve ice cream. It’s a one-hour commitment between 3:30pm and 7:00pm.
Field Day (Friday, June 6) It’s a day of fresh air, exercise and friendly competition for our elementary students. Come and make it a great experience for them through assisting in set up and running the events. We are looking for a 1-3 hour commitment during the school day.
