About Montessori Education
Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician, developed the educational approach that came to be known as the Montessori Method. In 1907, she started the first Casa dei Bambini (Children's House) for 3- to 6-year-olds in Rome, and her method eventually expanded to provide child-centered learning for infants, toddlers, elementary students, and adolescents. The North American Montessori Teachers Association estimates that there are 4500 Montessori schools in the United States and 20,000 worldwide.
